We are looking to share our home with you, if you would like to stay in Kapoho, East Hawaii, on the ocean, with direct access to swimming, snorkeling, a surf spot, warm ponds, Kapoho Wai `O Pae marine sanctuary with coral gardens, and even volcano viewing 15 minutes away. Our home was never built to be a rental—it is our principal residence, after honing our skills on some 20 previous homes, and we like things to be nice. Also, Jack is a 3rd generation wood flooring contractor, so old-school craftsmanship abounds. It’s also in the gated community of Kapoho Beach Lots, on Kapoho Bay, near Cape Kumukahi, the most eastern point on the island, and the state. We like to talk about how the air here is the cleanest on the planet, because it has about 3000 miles of ocean before it arrives on our shores.
Basically, we are offering our home during our two "big" trips. It has:
2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, office, large great room with an extra sleeping/napping spot (double bed), elevator from ground floor garage to second floor living space. Also there’s a roof-top deck (3rd floor) with a small (4 friendly person size) Jacuzzi tub. We have wireless internet, Dish TV, 3 bikes, 3 kayaks, 1 plastic outrigger canoe, two soft-top surf boards, a multitude of fins (light on the snorkels and masks), and a desk-top (nothing fancy) computer that you can use.
We built this house over the last year with the idea of NO maintenance, not just low maintenance. If you think you will ever want to build in the tropics you would be interested to see our solutions to lots of weather issues.
We are willing to share our dream home with you, because we’d like to offset some of our travelling costs while sharing with you.
MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE HOUSE: There is a stained-glass window panel which adds privacy at the front door, depicting the fish found in the bay. There are local hardwoods for the cabinets and floors (jacaranda, silky oak), granite counter tops, copper sinks, and a beachy white-washed ceiling with indirect and direct lighting. There is some drywall, so we can’t just hose the interior down. Shucks.
For our green tendencies, we installed solar hot water panels, and solar photo-voltaic panels. Most of our friends don’t even realize our house is powered by the sun—it’s seamless. If we hadn’t seen another friend’s house with a similar set up, we wouldn’t have understood that solar power’s time had arrived.
Since we are so close to the ocean, building codes required that all living space be 8 feet above the ground (16 feet above sea level). We also watched a number of older neighbors move, basically because they couldn’t easily get into their houses anymore. We installed an elevator from the ground-floor garage to the second floor living area.
Master Bedroom: Large room with a pillow top Queen-sized bed, dresser, koa rocking chair for reading or relaxing, reading lamps and romantic indirect lighting. Did we mention the HUGE ocean view? This room is quite gorgeous, if we do say so ourselves.
Master Bath: Tropical gone fabulous. Shower with two shower-heads, bench, and an ocean view! There’s also an unbelievable piece of granite that makes the walls of the shower look like you are inside a really refreshing volcano—or you can fill in your own thoughts on how it makes you feel.
Second Bedroom: Comfortable Queen-sized bed, closet with built in shelf for your luggage, reading lamp, ceiling fan, and a big ocean view.
Second Bathroom: This bathroom is across the hall from the second bedroom, so it functions as the powder room as well. It has a tub/shower, with marble walls, another copper sink, and toilet all in a good-sized bathroom.
Two week minimum.
